some pics from our house church
House church is a bunch of families, couples and singles getting together to do 'church'. We meet in people's homes and take it in turns to lead different things. This picture was taken the week the African Union was in session here in Addis and we brainstormed different things (on the pieces of paper around the floor) things we knew about each African country and spend some time praying for each one. Being a widely travelled group, and having lived in a few of the countries ourselves this was quite a fun task to reflect on the issues around Africa.

Tom's first spelling bee
Tom told us one day that he was representing his grade in the spelling bee - 'the what?' you may ask, or at least I had to ask!! So to make sure you are as enlightened as me, a spelling bee is where the kids are in a knock out spelling competition. They are given words in turn which they repeat to show they have heard and then spell out loud.
Tom (in the yellow, the last one left in his grade) did great, although looked like he was not enjoying the whole experience!!

metre pizza
Thinking of our ship friends as they are in the Canary Islands for the maintenance period. One of our memories from being in Tenerife with the ship was going to the 'Metre Bar' - a cafe where you would order a metre of pizza or a metre of sausages.
Well, we have found somewhere in Addis where you can get pizza by the metre or half metre too!! Sadly not the sausage option here though, although we did eat the packet of sausages that my Mum had brought frozen from the UK this week - mmmm.
We only managed a half metre, but are more than happy to return and try a metre pizza if anyone fancies joining us???
